Privacy policy

1. Who processes your data

The controller for the processing of your personal data is Previn, located at Bloemenstraat 36 in Bemmel, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce number [KVK-NUMMER]. For privacy questions: privacy@wattbalancer.nl.

2. What data we process

For the wattBalancer service we process the following data:

  • Account data: email address, first and last name, encrypted password
  • Device data: device ID (WB-XXXX), MAC address, claim code, firmware version, IP address the device is paired on
  • Energy data: real-time and historical readings from your P1 meter and inverter (power, voltage, frequency, status)
  • Settings: the configuration you choose in the dashboard (mode, target power, brands/IPs of inverter and P1 meter)
  • Technical logs: login timestamp, browser type and IP address for security and troubleshooting

3. Why we process this data

We use your data for:

  • Service delivery: linking your device to your account, controlling your inverter in real time, displaying energy data in the dashboard
  • Account management: login, password recovery, two-factor authentication
  • Support: getting in touch when you report a question or issue
  • Security: detecting unusual login behaviour, preventing fraud
  • Product improvement: anonymised, aggregated insights into how the service is used

Legal basis: performance of the agreement (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legitimate interest for security and product improvement (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for marketing purposes. We only share with:

  • Hosting partner: server in a Dutch data centre — for running the dashboard and the database
  • Email provider: for account confirmation, password reset and notifications
  • Payment provider: for online orders — we only receive the confirmation that the payment succeeded, not your payment details
  • Competent authorities: only when legally required

We have data processing agreements in place with all our suppliers, in line with the GDPR.

5. How long we keep data

We keep account data and linked devices for as long as your account is active. Energy data is kept for 13 months for year-on-year comparisons. Technical logs (login, changes) for a maximum of 30 days. When you delete your account, everything is wiped within 30 days, unless we are legally required to keep something (e.g. invoices for 7 years).

6. Cookies

We only use functional cookies that are necessary for the service to work (login, session management, language preference). We do not use tracking cookies, no Google Analytics, no advertising cookies and no social media pixels.

7. Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data: HTTPS connections, encrypted password storage (bcrypt), two-factor authentication as an option, restricted staff access, regular security updates. The device itself uses Secure Boot V2 + Flash Encryption to prevent tampering.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights:

  • Access: request which data we hold about you
  • Rectification: have incorrect data corrected
  • Erasure: have your account and data deleted ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction: have processing temporarily paused
  • Portability: request your data in a readable format
  • Objection: object to specific processing

Send your request to privacy@wattbalancer.nl. We will respond within 4 weeks. Not satisfied? You can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

9. Changes

For significant changes you will be notified via the email address linked to your account. The most current version is always available on this page.
